Background
Take the example of a training course in MS Excel. You have configured this event in iMIS and setup all of the relevant pricing, the dates, the location, the coordinator, etc. These are all pieces of data that should live in your iMIS system. You now want to publish this training course on the web, so that members can review the offering and, hopefully, register and pay. But this training course needs lots more content - it needs Learning Outcomes, Pre-Requisites, a map, etc. And then you realise it needs lots more. Because, firstly, you run this training course 20 times a year, but you don't want to have to create the content for these things over and over. It is part of a group, or in fact, a number of groups - it is a MS Office course, it is a Computing course, it is a business administration course. So you now need the ability to categorise this course, potentially in a hierarchy and then have the one content item used in many places all through your online presence.
The Goal
t enables you to define normal Kentico document types and then link properties on the document type to properties in iMIS. In the case of an iMIS Training Course, I setup a training course document type in Kentico and define the properties I need - both the items that are going to come from iMIS, like dates, prices, etc, plus the things I will enter as content - Learning Outcomes, Pre-requisites. I simply link the Kentico properties to iMIS and they are automatically populated. Each time I create a new Event in iMIS and enable it for the web (by the Accept web registrations flag in iMIS) a Kentico document stub is created ready for you to enter content. Moreover, by simply entering a custom field in iMIS on the Event with a Program code, a single stub will get created for the Program, where you can enter all of your content just once, while individual event instance will be created as sub pages.
The Outcome
This vastly simplifies the process of creating Event and Training course pages on your website. But the real advantage is that it releases the power of Kentico and structured content. Because your events and course are now all Kentico documents, you can reuse them all over your mobile presence - in responsive mobile views and referenced from many places across your website, in different categories, calendars, etc. And because they are documents in Kentico, they take advantage of Kentico's native search optimisation, so every event is fully indexed in search engines and optimised for search. This means more page view, more registrants and more revenue.
